Maroon Tops White in Warm-up for 2014 Campaign

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Four freshmen logged multiple hits for the Maroon squad as they topped the White 7-2 in the Aggies’ seven-inning intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.

Ronnie Gideon led the Maroon, going 3-for-5 with one home run and five RBI. Leadoff hitter Ryne Birk went 2-for-4 with one walk, one run and one RBI. Nick Banks and Nick Choruby both batted 2-for-3 with one run apiece. Sophomore J.B. Moss batted 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Redshirt freshman Rex Hill picked up the win in relief, scattering two hits while striking out two over 2.0 scoreless frames. Freshman Mark Ecker tallied the save, striking out two of the six batters he faced in 2.0 scoreless innings.

Blake Allemand and Krey Bratsen each plated a run for the White.

Texas A&M begins the 2014 season on Friday when the Aggies host Northeastern in a 6:35 pm contest at Blue Bell Park to start a three-game series.
