COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M softball team was picked preseason seventh by the Southeastern Conference coaches, the league office announced today.
2013 SEC Tournament Champion Florida, ranked No. 4 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll, was picked first in the SEC. The Gators are followed by 2013 national runner-up No. 2 Tennessee, No. 3 Alabama, No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 Kentucky to round out the top five. Sixth-ranked Missouri also stands ahead of Texas A&M. Rounding out the poll are No. 8 LSU, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 10 Auburn, No. 11 South Carolina, No. 12 Mississippi State and No. 13 Ole Miss.
Eight of the 13 SEC softball teams appear among the nation’s top-25 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll. Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. The 2014 SEC Softball Tournament will take place May 7-10 in Columbia, S.C., at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
The 11th-ranked Aggies (NFCA) start the 2014 season on Feb. 7 at UC Santa Barbara’s Gaucho Classic I, beginning the team’s search for a 13th-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and a berth to the Women’s College World Series.
