COLLEGE STATION – The No. 11 Texas A&M men’s tennis continues its season opening six match home stand Saturday afternoon at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center with dual matches against UTSA and Lamar. The match up with the Roadrunners is set for noon followed by a meeting with the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m.
The Aggies return to action just six days after 7-0 sweeps of Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas-Pan American at the Mitchell Tennis center. Jeremy Efferding, Junior Ore and Jordan Szabo earned victories in both contests, helping clinch eight points total on the afternoon. All three players played singles and doubles in both contests. Efferding, the No. 13 player in the country, bested Damian Farinola of UL (6-1, 6-3) and later defeated Ivar Aramburu of Pan American (6-2, 6-3).
The Roadrunners dropped their season opener last weekend at No. 51 Texas Tech by a score of 5-2. Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman each recorded singles victories, but it was not enough in the setback to the Red Raiders.
The Cardinals will open the season with a young roster featuring four freshmen, three sophomores and one junior for 2014. The freshmen each have big expectations this season as a number are expected to be standout performers for the Red and White.
