SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Texas A&M sophomore point guard Jordan Jones was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation’s top point guard.

Jones has 101 assists on the season, and has increased her pace to 7.5 assists per game since Dec. 28. She had a career-high 13 assists on Dec. 28, which ranks in the top 10 for single-game assists in Texas A&M history. She is currently 24th in the NCAA and third in the SEC in assists per game.

Jones is the only sophomore, and one of just three underclassmen, to be named to the list.

Every year, The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announces a watch list of candidates for the Nancy Lieberman Award which recognizes the top point guard in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball.  Candidates exhibit the floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills of Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman. The list gradually gets narrowed down to 20 in February and then 5 in March with the winner being announced during the Final Four weekend activities.

Previous winners of this prestige award include Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame), Sue Bird (UConn), Diana Taurasi (Uconn), and Temeka Johnson (LSU).

Jones and the Aggies continue the season by hosting No. 8 South Carolina for sole possession of first place in the SEC standings on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. The game is televised on FSSW+.
