Texas A&M's women's basketball team heads to the World's Most Famous Arena to partake in the Maggie Dixon Classic, and face the St. John's Red Storm on Sunday in a game televised by ESPNU. This is the Aggies second appearance in the Maggie Dixion Classic and in Madison Square Garden, after a 79-50 victory over Rutgers in the 2010 edition of the event.
The Aggies first trip to The Garden was a roaring success, as the Aggies' not only beat Rutgers on that day, but turned around and beat the Scarlet Knights in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, as the Aggies would go on to win the national championship. Danielle Adams led the Aggies with 24 points and 12 rebounds in that game, while Sydney Colson dropped a then-Maggie Dixon Classic record nine assists. The announced attendance was 15,232, which is the largest crowd to see the Aggies play outside of the Final Four weekend.
The Aggies (7-3) are coming off of a 73-39 win over Nicholls, in front of a season-high 7,188 fans on Elementary School Day. Recently, the Aggies have received strong contributions from Courtney Walker, who has nine straight double digit scoring games, and Courtney Williams, who has four.
St. John's (5-4) started the season 5-1, but have dropped their last three contests. The Red Storm, who have made four straight NCAA Tournaments, are 0-2 against the SEC so far this season.
After this game, the Aggies break for the holidays, to return to action on Dec. 28 to host three-time National Champion Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. inside Reed Arena.
