Krueger, Nguyen to be inducted into Texas Sports Hall of Fame

WACO, Texas --- Texas A&M football legends Charlie Krueger and Dat Nguyen will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame with the Class of 2014, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Krueger and Nguyen will be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance on Thursday, February 27, 2014 along with former University of Texas and Detroit Lions DT Doug English, former UNLV and NBA All Star Larry Johnson, former Texas Ranger catcher Pudge Rodriguez, former Oklahoma State and Buffalo Bills RB Thurman Thomas, NCAA and Olympic 400-meter dash champion Sanya Richards-Ross and former Baylor and Houston Oilers QB Don Trull.

Krueger, a three-year Texas A&M letterman from 1955-57, was a two-time All-Southwest Conference and All-America tackle for Paul “Bear” Bryant’s Aggies. He helped lead the Aggies to the 1956 SWC title. He was selected in the first round of the 1958 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He played 15 seasons for the team and he earned a spot in the Pro Bowl twice. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame in 1972 and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame in 1982.

Nguyen, a four-year letterwinner from 1995-98, remains Texas A&M’s all-time tackle leader with 517 career stops. As a senior, he spearheaded the Aggies’ run to the 1998 Big 12 Championship while winning consensus All-America honors, as well as the Lombardi Award and Bednarik Trophy. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1996 and played seven seasons for the team. He earned first-team All-NFC honors and second-team All-NFL honors in 2003. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame in 2004. Later, Nguyen returned to Texas A&M to coach the linebackers from 2010-11.
 

The inductees are scheduled to appear in Waco for the banquet which will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 7:00pm. There will be a reception at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame before the banquet beginning at 5:00pm. Combination Reception/Banquet tickets are $200 each or $1,500 for a reserved table of 10.  The banquet will be held at Baylor University's Ferrell Center.
