COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team stands in second place at the conclusion of day one of the Art Adamson Invitational Thursday.

The No. 4 Aggies with 393 points are just short of No. 7 Stanford (417). Rounding out the rankings are LSU (210), SMU (106), TCU (75), and the Air Force diving squad (21).

The women displayed their power, opening the meet by breaking a school record in the 200 freestyle relay. The record-breaking foursome of senior Erica Dittmer, junior Sammie Bosma, senior Breeja Larson, and junior Liliana Ibañez swam the event in an NCAA ‘A’ time standard of 1:28.02.

“Breaking the record in the 200 free relay was exciting,” head coach Steve Bultman said of the opening event. “I told them that I thought we could break it this year, and I thought ‘why not now?’”

Senior Cammile Adams grabbed an individual victory in the 500 free in 4:38.52, which is also an NCAA ‘B’ time standard.

Other NCAA ‘B’ time standards include 200 IM swimmers Dittmer (1:56.41), sophomore Ashley McGregor (1:58.62), Adams (1:59.21), and senior Paige Miller (2:00.12). NCAA ‘B’ cuts also came in the 500 free from junior Sarah Henry (4:42.99) and the 50 free from Ibañez (22.24), Dittmer (22.31), Bosma (22.54), Larson (22.80).

“This is a meet that we allow them to rest before and we want to get as many people qualified for the NCAA Championships as we can,” added Bultman.

Altogether the Aggies tallied nine NCAA ‘B’ cuts and two ‘A’ cuts in the first day of the meet.

To finish the day the 400 medley relay squad of Miller, Larson, Bosma, and Ibañez tied for second place with an NCAA ‘A’ time standard of 3:33.02.

The Art Adamson Invitational will resume tomorrow with preliminary swims beginning at 10 a.m. and diving at 12:30 p.m. Swimming and diving finals will begin at 6 p.m. at the A&M Student Recreation Natatorium.
