COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Maroon evened the Texas A&M softball team’s annual Maroon & White Series at 1-1 with an 8-2 win on Tuesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.

The designated visitors put up 16 hits to top White and force the series to at least four games. Game three is set for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., and game four will take place Thursday at 4:15 p.m.

After dropping game one, 5-3, Maroon took the first bite in game two when senior Nicole Morgan hit an RBI double to left-center field. The hit scored junior speedster Brittany Clopton, who reached on an infield single from first for the 1-0 lead in the top of the third.

White took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of unearned runs. Sophomore Breanna Dozier was the leadoff hitter and reached on a two-base fielding error. With two outs on the board, senior Taran Tyler slammed a home run over the fence in left field and picked up two RBI as White took the 2-1 lead.

The new lead didn’t last long as Maroon worked to a 5-2 advantage in the top of the sixth. Senior Amber Garza used a base hit to reach first and moved to second on a wild pitch. An error added senior Jenna Stark to the base paths before freshman Suzanne White sent a bomb over center field for the 4-2 lead. With one out and senior Allison Garrett on second after a base hit and an error, sophomore Alex Masek doubled to left-center to plate Garrett for the 5-2 lead.

Maroon stretched to a 7-2 lead on the legs of a home run by Morgan in the top of the seventh. The senior picked up her second and third RBI of the day when she topped the fence in left. Senior Emily Albus scored on the play, reaching on a bunt single in her first at-bat of the day. Morgan and White each had three RBI and a home run on the day.

Back-to-back-to-back base hits by Garrett, Masek and Albus loaded the bases in time for Clopton to send the 8-2 run across the plate on a single down the left-field line.

Redshirt junior Rachel Fox earned the win, throwing three innings of relief for Maroon. The right hander tossed three strikeouts and gave up two hits and a walk. Sophomore Lauren Ainsley started the game in the circle for the winners, allowing no earned runs on four hits and a walk while fanning two.

Sophomore Katie Marks suffered the loss, pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief for White. The transfer allowed two earned runs on five hits. Sophomore Kristen Davenport started the game, striking out one and giving up one run on one walk and four hits. Closing for White was freshman Abby Donnell, who allowed three earned run on seven hits in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Game three of the best-of-five series will start at 4:30 Wednesday, with game four following at 4:15 p.m. Thursday. Both match-ups will be aired live on 95.1-3 The Zone HD via AggieAthletics.com and RadioAggieland.com. Maroon & White Series games are free to the public and all times are Central.
