COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M softball team will play four home exhibition games this week, beginning with a Tuesday doubleheader against Sam Houston State. The Aggies and Bearkats will start the action at 5 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex, followed by a second game at 7 p.m.

Texas A&M recently opened the fall home season, defeating Galveston Junior College (3-0) and McLennan College (5-2) on Friday. Sophomore Cali Lanphear had six RBI on the day with two home runs and a base hit. Senior Amber Garza also homered against the Highlassies with a solo shot over right field.

The Bearkats are playing their final games of the fall on Tuesday. Sam Houston State is coming off of a record-breaking season that saw the team post a 37-24 record – ranking No. 6 in SHSU softball history. The 2013 Bearkats set team single-season records for highest batting average (.321), runs scored (320), hits (559), home runs (59) and RBI (290), as well as numerous individual records. Sam Houston State retains 17 letterwinners from last year’s squad, and welcomes five newcomers.

Texas A&M and Sam Houston State play each year during the regular season, traditionally splitting sites in the two-game series. This spring, the Aggies will travel to SHSU for a Feb. 12 contest, before hosting the Bearkats on Feb. 18.

Last fall, Texas A&M recorded a 5-0 shutout of Sam Houston State. In the spring of 2013, the Aggies swept the regional series, 8-0 in Huntsville, and 8-3 in College Station. Texas A&M holds an 89-13 regular-season advantage over SHSU.

Up next, the Aggies will play Blinn College in a Thursday doubleheader at the Aggie Softball Complex. The Aggies and Buccaneers will face off at an updated time of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both games will be aired on 95.1-3 The Zone HD.
