COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The ninth-ranked Texas A&M Equestrian team (2-2, 1-0 SEC) will compete in its first Southeastern Conference road meet of the season on Friday when it travels to No. 1 Georgia (2-0, 1-0 SEC). The Aggies and Bulldogs face off at 1 p.m. CT at the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga.
“Georgia is always an exciting and tough meet for us,” head coach Tana McKay said. “We rode against them twice in the regular season, and twice in the postseason last year, and it was a battle each time. Our riders learned a lot from our show at TCU last weekend, and we’re ready for an SEC matchup on Friday.”
Texas A&M is coming off of a loss at No. 5 TCU last weekend that featured wins by all four Aggie captains, an a Most Outstanding Player performance from Lindsey Bernbaum in reining. Sophomore Logan Pluhar took honors a week ago as the SEC’s October Horsemanship Rider of the Month.
The Bulldogs’ last competition was at South Carolina on Oct. 11, when the teams rode to a 9-9 tie. Georgia won the tiebreaker, edging the Gamecocks by just three in the raw tally. The Bulldogs also defeated Fresno State, 16-3 in Bishop, earlier this season. UGA freshman Liza Finsness is the SEC October Flat Rider of the Month.
The Aggies and Bulldogs last met in the NCEA National Championship western quarterfinals where Georgia took a 5-2 victory. UGA came out of the weekend with overall and hunter seat reserve championships.
