COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M men’s tennis team welcomes the University of Illinois and Harvard University to the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center for the 2013 Texas A&M Conference Challenge, the Aggies’ lone home tournament this fall. The three day tournament features teams from the SEC, Big Ten and Ivy League.

“This is only opportunity to host this fall,” Aggie men’s tennis coach Steve Denton said. “Our stadium club members and the 12th Man have supported us extremely well through the years.”

“We’ve had considerable success this fall and we are pleased, but we know we still have a lot of work to do,” Denton added. “Our guys as a whole are better at this stage of the year than we were a year ago. This weekend with Illinois and Harvard, this is NCAA Championship quality competition. This also helps us prepare for regionals and the opportunity to qualify players for nationals.”

Admission for the entire event is free. Doubles are slated to begin at 10 a.m. on Friday with singles starting around 3 p.m. On Saturday, the second and third rounds of singles competition will begin at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. Sunday, the final round of doubles begins at 9 a.m. and the last singles contests will start around 10:30 a.m.

Texas A&M returns seven letterwinners from last season’s 14th-ranked squad that went 19-13 and claimed the SEC West Title on the way to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. The Aggies are looking to make their 21st-consecutive trip to the postseason this spring.

Both Harvard and Illinois are coming off Second Round runs to the NCAA Tournament in 2013. The Crimson return eleven members from last season’s squad that posted a 19-6 record on its way to an Ivy League Championship. The Illini return eight letterwinners from last season’s team that went 18-13 last year.
