MANHATTAN, Kans. – Texas A&M sophomore Hannah Williams earned the highest score of the day across all four events as the No. 6 Aggies (0-1) dropped their season opener at No. 4 Kansas State (3-1), 17-2.

Williams was the only rider on both sides of the meet to break 78, scoring an 80 in equitation over fences to take the highest mark of the day. The sophomore was one of two Aggies to defeat her opponent on the day, as junior Haley Buchmiller also won her ride in over fences. Williams’ score of 80 was her career high in over fences. Sophomore Marlena Parker tied her opponent at 76 in equitation on the flat.

“We made some early-season mistakes today and they cost us the meet,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “Despite the loss, I was able to see how strong our riders have become and how they have continued to improve. Hannah had a great win with the highest score of the day, as did Haley, and I was impressed with our exhibition rides, especially Paige Linne and Jennie Edwards.”

The Aggies won three exhibition rides against the Wildcats. Sophomore Jennie Edwards won her ride by nine points in equitation on the flat, and sophomore Kimmy Saul topped her opponent, 68-53, in fences. In reining, junior Paige Linne battled to a 68.5-65.5 exhibition victory.

The Texas A&M equestrian team returns home to host No. 9 SMU on Friday, Oct. 11. The meet is set to start at 11 a.m. CT. To learn more about Aggie equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
