BRYAN, Texas – The Texas A&M women’s golf team finished fifth on the leaderboard Wednesday afternoon at the ‘Mo’Morial Tournament, hosted by Traditions Golf Club.

Individually, senior Katerina Ruzickova (71-72-74) paced the Aggies tying for second place at two over par for the tournament. Haley Mills (70-72-71) of Kentucky finished first at three under par.

“Kat (Ruzickova) hit the ball extremely well today, but just could not get anything to fall,” Texas A&M women’s golf head coach Trelle McCombs said. “There are days when you hit the ball poorly and everything will fall, today was not one of those days for Kat. Earlier in her career, Kat would get frustrated when shots were not falling for her, but we have talked about it throughout her career and she handled the adversity very well.”

Kentucky (294-292-286) captured the team title at the ‘Mo’ for the first time, previously placing third and 17th in 2011 and 2003, respectively. Trailing the Wildcats in the top five on the leaderboard were Virginia (298-296-289), UCF (296-300-289), East Carolina (299-297-297) and A&M. Florida State (304-299-297), Texas A&M ‘B’ (306-307-308), UTSA (304-310-308), Rollins College (302-320-310), Elon (318-328-329), Redlands CC (321-319-329) and UT-Pan American (334-355-363) filled out the leaderboard.

“Although we did not have our best round the last two days we found a way to compete and I liked seeing that from my team,” McCombs said. “We took a gamble putting three young players on the ‘A’ team this week and all we could do was hope they would respond. I hope my team takes this result to heart the next couple weeks and prepares accordingly.”

Texas A&M’s fifth-place team consisted of Ruzickova, senior Chelsea Mocio (71-78-72, t11), freshman Bianca Fabrizio (76-76-77, t29), freshman Thanya Pattamakijsakul (72-81-79, t43) and sophomore Alex Neal (77-78-77, t43).

The seventh-place Aggie ‘B’ lineup was filled out with freshman Andrea Jonama (74-72-76, t15), senior Natalie Reeves (71-76-83,t31), senior Janell Lysack (79-78-74, t37), junior Kirby Kramer (85-84-75, t54) and freshman Callie Scheffler (82-81-88, t60).

Freshman Emily Fuchs (87-88-91), playing as an individual, finished 67th.

The Aggies will return to action Friday, Sept. 20 in Greeneville, S.C., at the Lady Paladin Invitational.
