Larson, from Mesa, Ariz., touched the wall in a time of 1:06.74, to log her highest finish ever at an international championship. Last year, Larson placed sixth in the 100 breast at the London Olympic Games. Winning the world title was world record holder Ruta Meilutyte of Lithuania, who finished in a time of 1:04.42.
Fellow London Olympian Cammile Adams, also a senior-to-be, swims for the first time at the FINA World Championships in the 200-meter butterfly on Wednesday. Adams, from Cypress, Texas, has already won the NCAA and U.S. National Championship in the race this year, and is seeded fourth with a time of 2:06.78.
