COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M sophomore Jeremy Efferding was named to the All-SEC first team and freshmen Harry Adams and Shane Vinsant were both named to the All-SEC second team and to the All-Freshmen team, the conference office announced this morning.
Playing in the nation’s toughest conference with 10 teams inside the ITA’s top-20, the Aggie trio helped Texas A&M claim its first Western Division championship in its first season in the SEC.
After moving to the top-singles line during conference play, Efferding finished the regular season having defeated the No. 1, 6 and 18 ranked players in the country. In his upset of top-ranked Alex Domijan of Virginia, Efferding became the first Aggie to ever knock off the ITA’s No. 1 player. The Boca Raton, Fla., native finished the season with a 16-8 dual-match record including a 6-4 mark in SEC action and going 7-4 from the No. 1 singles line. The sophomore is currently the highest-ranked player for the Maroon and White at No. 21.
Freshmen Adams and Vinsant both played integral roles for the Aggies this season. Vinsant led the team in singles wins, going 19-7 and 7-3 in conference. The Keller, Texas, native posted a 16-7 record from the No. 4 line and garnered SEC Freshman of the Week honors three times this season. Adams ranked third on the team in singles wins, posting a 15-8 mark and going 4-4 in SEC play. The New Braunfels, Texas, native went 12-5 from the No. 3 line and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors twice this season. In addition, the doubles team of Adams and Vinsant boasted the team lead in doubles victories, going 15-9.
