Each month, Texas A&M Athletics recognizes a staff member who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve the department.

November's Teammate of the Month is Assistant to the Director of Athletics Catharine West.

Q&A with Catharine West

How much do you enjoy working in a department as successful and as close-knit as Texas A&M Athletics?

"I've been fortunate in my career to work in places that are close-knit and have developed lifelong friendships with my co-workers.  Athletics is no exception.  I'm lucky that I enjoy what I do, but what makes by job so great is the people I get to work with every day and knowing we are all working toward a common goal of providing our student-athletes tools to be champions on the field and in life."

What does it mean to you personally to be recognized by your peers as Teammate of the Month?

"Aggie Athletics is filled with outstanding individuals in all areas.  To be recognized by peers as Teammate of the Month is such an honor."

How much does it mean to you personally when you get to see your colleagues on the coaching and support staffs celebrate big wins on the field?

"I grew up with an Aggie grandfather and graduated from A&M in '95.  Celebrating Aggie wins wasn't new to me when I joined Athletics, but it took on a new meaning.  I've learned that the wins on the field are still an amazing accomplishment, but what we're all working so hard for is to give our student-athletes the opportunity of an education and experience at Texas A&M and help them develop into responsible adults with integrity and character.  The biggest win is having students come back and visit to share their career, life and family successes."

What's it like to see the town ride the excitement of athletic success and know that you're a part of that?

"You can't go many places in town with hearing discussion of Aggie Athletics, and most folks have an opinion.  The cloud of excitement that seems to have settled over the Aggiedome is great, and I love it.  I've always said the only thing athletic about me is my business card (and those that have seen me in action know what I mean).  A wise man once said that a rising tide raises all ships.  I'd say we're on the way up, and it's definitely a great time to be an Aggie.  Knowing I'm a part of it is the icing on the cake."
