COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Maroon team ended the Texas A&M softball team's annual Maroon & White Series with a 6-5 win in game three for a 2-1 series victory.
The game came down to the wire as Maroon took the final lead in the top of the seventh inning on a two-RBI double by senior Meagan May.
A Jenna Stark double pounded to left field in the bottom of the second with two outs plated the first run of the game for White. The designated home team held Maroon runners at second and third in the top of the third inning before stretching the White team lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the inning on a single to left field by freshman Breanna Dozier.
Maroon nabbed the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs. Junior Amber Garza hit a solo home run over right field before sophomore Lauren Tamayo hit her second double to left field of the day to send the tying run home. A ground out by freshman Alex Masek gave junior Kaydee Rayburn time to fly home for the 3-2 lead.
The Maroon lead didn't last long as White used a Nicole Morgan three-run blast over left to stretch ahead to 5-3.
Senior Sydney Shannon topped the fence in dead-center to give Maroon a chance with the 4-5 run in the top of the sixth.
Tamayo hit her third double of the day down the left field lie in the top of the seventh. A pair of walks loaded the bases behind Tamayo for Maroon and with two outs, hit a two RBI double through the right side to give Maroon a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh junior Allison Garrett and junior Emily Albus beat a pair of infield singles to reach base. Senior Mel Dumezich fanned the final batter, however and Maroon took the series win with a 6-5 game-three victory.
Dumezich threw seven complete innings for the Maroon team, striking out six batters while giving up five runs on 12 hits and walking three. Sophomore Lauren Ainsley pitched seven for White, allowing six runs on 10 hits while fanning four and walking five.
The final game of the 2012 Maroon & White Series concluded the Aggies' fall play. The team will return to the diamond in February for its first season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). To learn more about Texas A&M softball, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieSoftball on Twitter.
