VICENZA, Italy - Six players scored in double figures to lead the Texas A&M women's basketball team past Famila Schio, 105-48, Thursday night in the Aggies' third game of their tour of Italy.
A&M again started strong and jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first 6 minutes of the game. The Aggies increased the gap to 29-4 with 3 minutes remaining in the first period and were leading 58-18 at the half, holding Famila Schio to just 4 points in the second period.
Freshmen Courtney Walker and Peyton Little led the team in scoring with 16 points each. Walker added seven rebounds, while Little swiped a game-high seven steals. Junior Kelsey Bone and senior Adrienne Pratcher had 14. Bone grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Pratcher dished out a game-high six assists. Junior Karla Gilbert and freshman Courtney Williams chipped in 10 points apiece.
"It was very good basketball for A&M," head coach Gary Blair said. "This team did not have the physicality of the last team we played, but they shot the ball better. I thought we did some very good things on offense, but our defense was not up to par the whole night. Offensively, we were pretty much able to do what we wanted inside. Our point guard play was great and Peyton and Courtney (Walker) played very well at the wings. I was pleased with how well we were moving as a unit and overall it was another good night for the Aggies. We had a lot of A&M fans in attendance from Italy, along with a lot of service members and their families."
Prior to their game, the Aggies made a stop at the U.S. Army Garrison Vicenza's military base for a meet and greet and invited the service members and their families to the game.
A&M scored at least 23 points each period and held an 82-35 lead at the end of third.
The Aggies shot 49 percent from the floor and dished out 22 assists, while tallying 24 steals. A&M forced Famila Schio into 35 turnovers and out-rebounded the team 44-19.
Lorenza Prospero was the leading scorer for Famila Schio with 16 points, while Eleonora Zanetti added 15.
Texas A&M travels to Como tomorrow and will wrap up play in Italy on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. CT). Scoring updates will be provided on the Aggies' official Twitter feed at @Aggie_W_Hoops.
