NEW YORK --- Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill is projected as a high first-round NFL Draft selection and will be in attendance at New York's Radio City Music Hall for Thursday's primetime coverage of the event at 7 p.m. on the NFL Network and NFL.com.
Four NFL Network draft analysts - Mike Mayock, Michael Lombardi, Charles Casserly and Charles Davis - all believe the record-setting Tannehill will be selected with the eighth overall pick by the Miami Dolphins.
If Tannehill is selected in the top 10 on Thursday, it would mark the first time in program history that Aggies have been selected in the top 10 in back-to-back drafts. Von Miller was taken second overall in 2011 by the Denver Broncos and went on to earn the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
The last time A&M has had players picked in the NFL Draft first round in consecutive years was the early 1990s when the Aggies did it in 1992-94.
Tannehill is likely to become the first Aggie quarterback ever selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. The previous high for an A&M signal-caller was when Marion Pugh was selected in the second round of the 1941 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Asked to bolster the Aggies' receiving corps as a freshman, Tannehill was the Aggies' top receiver as a freshman and sophomore even though he practiced with the quarterbacks and attended the QB meetings. As a junior, Tannehill won the starting QB job at midseason and started final 19 games of his career at the position.
Tannehill is the only player in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) history to throw for 4,000 yards and gain more than 1,500 receiving yards in his career. He's also the only FBS player to have single games of 400-plus passing yards and 200-plus receiving yards on his resumé.
Among the A&M passing records that Tannehill shattered during his career were single game passing yards (449 vs. Texas Tech, 2010), and single season passing yards (3,744, 2011) and completion percentage (65.0, 2010). As a receiver, Tannehill set freshman records for season catches and receiving yards (55-844 in 2008) and single game records for catches and yards (12 catches for 210 yards vs. Kansas State, 2008).
After the first round on Thursday, the NFL Draft continues on Friday with second and third rounds (6 p.m.), and the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday (11 a.m.). Among the Aggies also waiting for their names to be called are: DE Ben Bass, DT Eddie Brown, PK Randy Bullock, CB Terrence Frederick, WR Jeff Fuller, RB Cyrus Gray, DB Trent Hunter, DE Tony Jerod-Eddie, CB Coryell Judie, CB Lionel Smith and LB Garrick Williams.
