COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The latest ITA singles and doubles rankings were released today and Texas A&M senior co-captain Alexis Klegou is ranked No. 15, up four spots from the earlier poll.
Klegou, from Dunkerque, France, posted the winning point in a No. 1 singles match against Texas (Feb. 10) last week to give the Aggies' their first indoor Texas Cup victory over the Longhorns in a 4-3 win in Houston.
On the doubles side, fellow co-captain and senior Colin Hoover has teamed with senior John Lewis and the duo is ranked No. 36 in the country in doubles. Hoover, from Victoria, Texas, and Lewis, from Birmingham, Alabama, were unranked in the early part of the season but came up with a key victory over No. 48 Chris Camillone and David Holiner of Texas last week.
Another Aggie tandem, sophomore Junior Ore, from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and redshirt freshman Jackson Withrow, from Omaha, Nebraska, are ranked No. 55 in the latest poll. The young duo has been playing No. 1 doubles for A&M and the tandem defeated the Texas No. 1 doubles team of Soren Hess-Olesen and Alex Hilliard last week to secure the doubles point in the match.
The Aggies, the 11th seed, faces the sixth-seed Kentucky in the first-round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships being hosted by Virginia at 8 a.m. central (9 a.m. eastern) on Friday, Feb. 17.
The Wildcats counter with two doubles teams being ranked with Eric Quigley and Panav Jha ranked No. 48 and Quigley and Alex Musialek are ranked No. 58. Quigley is the top singles player for the Wildcats and is ranked No. 6 in the country in singles. The Wildcats have a total of six players ranked in singles: Quigley No. 6; Anthony Rossi at No. 13; Alex Musialek at No. 20; Tom Jomby at No. 79; Alejandro Gomez at No. 87 and Panav Jha at No. 119.
