The Texas A&M women's tennis team concluded its fall season over the weekend, with junior Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar competing at the prestigious USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y., and other members of the team participating in the UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Sanchez-Quintanar, a junior who transferred to A&M from Maryland prior to the fall season, was an at-large entry at the indoor championships, which were played at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. After falling to top-seeded, No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA singles champion Jana Juricova of California, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, in the first round of the main draw, Sanchez-Quintanar reached the semifinals in the consolation bracket.

Sanchez-Quintanar defeated 27th-ranked Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round of consolation play and then knocked off reigning Big 12 Player of the Year and 35th-ranked Petra Niedermayerova of Kansas State, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3, to advance to the semifinals. Sanchez-Quintanar, from Campo de Criptana, Spain, then went against Duke's Beatrice Capra, the No. 1 seed in the consolation bracket, and fell, 6-2, 6-4.

Sanchez-Quintanar finishes the spring with a 13-4 record.

The Aggies begin the 2012 spring season Jan. 27 against Mississippi at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. A&M will play either Florida State or Ohio State on Jan. 28, and the winner of the four-team tournament advances to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, Feb. 10-13, in Charlottesville, Va.
