COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M outfielder Nick Banks is competing for a roster spot on the nation’s premier summer collegiate team as the rising sophomore has been welcomed to take part in the USA Baseball Collegiate National training camp.

Camp began on June 19 with the squad playing games against collegiate summer league teams between June 21-30 as part of the Red, White and Blue Tour. The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s final 24-man roster will be set June 29, followed by a summer schedule that will include international friendship series against Chinese Taipei and Japan as well as a trip to Cuba and the Honkbal Haarlem Baseball Week in the Netherlands.

Banks joins rising junior AJ Minter who accepted an invitation to the training camp earlier in the month.

As a freshman Banks earned Freshman All-America recognition as well as being named to the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman squad. Banks led the Aggies with a .327 batting average, logging 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 26 RBI and seven stolen bases in 57 games, including 55 starts. He ranked fourth in the SEC in batting in league games with a .360 average in 30 contests.

Aggie head coach Rob Childress is serving as an assistant coach for the team. The squad will be skippered by Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn with assistance from Pepperdine’s Steve Rodriguez and New Mexico’s Ray Birmingham.

Last season Daniel Mengden represented the Aggies on the USA Collegiate National Team, pitching in six games, including one start, going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA while striking out 11 in 13.1 innings.
