COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M women’s golfer Marijosse Navarro was recognized as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, announced earlier Wednesday by the league office.
“This is a great accomplishment for such a talented and special player,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “I look forward to seeing her continue to play well for us in the future.”
In just her second appearance as an Aggie, Navarro captured the individual title at last Sunday’s Battle at the Valley in Graniteville, SC in a field that included three players currently ranked in Golf Week’s Top-30. The Mexico City native led the maroon and white to victory over Clemson and GRU Augusta.
Navarro finished two rounds at even-par, besting runner-up and teammate Senior Katerina Ruzickova by four strokes. The freshman lead the field at five-under par on par 5’s and finished even-par on par 3’s while tallying 23 pars in two rounds of action.
Navarro and her teammates will be back in action this weekend at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational this weekend in Gainesville, Florida. Stay tuned to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieWomensGolf on Twitter for coverage of Texas A&M women’s golf.
