Top-10 Matchup Next for A&M Menís Tennis

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No.8 Texas A&M men’s tennis continues its road trek with No. 5 Ohio State up next in Columbus, Ohio at the Varsity Tennis Center at 11:00 a.m. (CT).

The Aggies are back in action after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of No. 22 Illinois Friday evening in Urbana, Illinois. The maroon and white edged out the doubles point to begin the match behind a career-high win for No. 6 Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow over No. 4 Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon (6-4). A&M struggled to begin singles on Friday night losing the first set on five courts and unable to come back falling to the Fighting Illini 4-1.

In singles, the Aggies boast three top-40 players in No. 13 Jeremy Efferding, No. 19 Harrison Adams and No. 38 Shane Vinsant. More impressively, Texas A&M utilizes two top-20 ranked doubles teams, No. 6 Ore and Withrow and No. 20 Efferding and Jordan Szabo.

The No. 5 Ohio State men's tennis team continued its home dominance with its seventh shutout of the season, defeating the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats, 4-0 Friday night at the VTC. The Buckeyes (8-0) now improve their home win streak to 180-consecutive matches. The scarlet and grey are led in singles by No. 31 Peter Kobelt and the No. 7 duo of Kobelt and Kevin Metka.

The Buckeyes and Aggies are tied, 4-4, in the eight meetings between the two schools. Last season, Ohio State fell at Texas A&M, 4-3, in College Station, but defeated the Aggies, 4-0, in the NCAA Round of 16 in Urbana, Ill. The Buckeyes are 2-0 vs. Texas A&M in Columbus, claiming victories in 2009 and 2012, respectively.
