COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M’s Saska Gavrilovska (pronounced saush-ka GAV-ril-OV-ska) has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week for women’s tennis, the Southeastern Conference office announced today.

Gavrilovska went a combined 3-0 in singles and doubles last weekend, helping Texas A&M go 2-0 in its season-opening matches at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend to earn a berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Vrsac, Serbia native was 2-0 at No. 3 singles, winning both of her matches in straight sets, and was 1-0 at No. 3 doubles with partner Anna Mamalat.

In her A&M home debut, Gavrilovska won seven consecutive games to close out a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mississippi State’s Timea Guiba and clinch the winning point in the Aggies’ season-opening 4-1 victory against the Bulldogs.

In the championship match against DePaul, Gavrilovska and Mamalat clinched the doubles point for the Aggies, cruising to a 6-1 victory over Rebeca Mitrea and Zaina Sufi at the No. 3 line. Gavrilovska was first off in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the Blue Demons’ Jasmin Kling, putting the Aggies ahead, 2-0, en route to a 4-1 victory.

Gavrilovska and the Aggies hit the road next week to take on No. 3 North Carolina, Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. (CT) in Chapel Hill, N.C. They then head to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships to be played Feb. 7-10 at the Boar’s Head Tennis Club in Charlottesville, Va.
