SPRINGTOWN, Texas – Despite winning reining late in the meet, the No. 9 Texas A&M equestrian team (2-2) dropped a 14-6 decision at fifth-ranked TCU (3-0), Friday at Turning Point Ranch.

The Aggies were led by wins from all four team captains – Laura Sumrall, Leah Chenelle, Paige Russell and Caroline Ammons – as well as a Most Outstanding Player performance from Lindsey Bernbaum in reining.

“Today’s loss was tough,” Head Coach Tana McKay said. “TCU came out ready to go and got an early lead that we couldn’t recover from.”

TCU jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage after the equitation over fences competition. The Aggies’ only win in that event was an 84-80 victory by Chenelle. Her impressive score ranks third this season among Aggie over fences riders, and was the highest over fences mark of the day.

The Aggie horsemanship team also fell, 4-1, to the Horned Toads, with the only win coming from Ammons. Again, the senior’s 74.5 mark was third-best among A&M horsemanship riders this season, and was the second-highest horsemanship score of the day.

A 4-1 win by TCU in equitation on the flat clinched the meet for the Horned Frogs. Russell topped her opponent, 79-71, to add a point to the Aggies’ tally.

Texas A&M mounted a late 3-2 surge in reining, with victories by Ashley Dotson, Lindsey Bernbaum and Sumrall, but the meet ended with TCU taking a 14-6 win. Bernbaum earned her first MOP accolades of the season with her 73-72 victory.

The No. 9 Aggies return to action next Friday at top-ranked Georgia.  The Aggies and Bulldogs face off at 1 p.m. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
