PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif.  – Cristina Stancu’s run at the  Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships came to an end today as the Texas A&M senior fell to No. 1-seed and second-ranked Robin Anderson of UCLA, 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the semifinal round at the Riviera Tennis Club.

Stancu, aiming to become the first A&M player to reach the finals at the prestigious tournament, had worked her way up from the qualifying draw, winning six consecutive matches to reach the semifinals of the main draw.

"Clearly today's outcome was disappointing for Tina,” A&M coach Howard Joffe said, “but winning six consecutive matches against the top players in the country reaffirms the caliber of her play and without question must give her tremendous confidence as she moves on with her senior year. "

Ranked No. 48 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, Stancu fell behind 2-0 to start the match against Anderson but broke back to get back on serve. The Romanian then broke Anderson to take a 5-4 lead and was serving for the set before the Bruin broke back to even the score.

Each side then held serve to force a tiebreaker at 6-6. With the tiebreaker knotted at 2-2, Anderson won three unanswered points to open a 5-2 lead. She would also win two of the next three points to win the tiebreaker, 7-3, and capture the first set.

Anderson broke Stancu to take a 2-1 lead in the second set en route to the second-set 6-3 victory.

Despite the loss, Stancu receives an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing, N.Y., by reaching the semifinal round.
