COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women’s golf team opened the season with an impressive two-over effort to claim first place at the Aggie ‘Mo’Morial hosted at the Traditions Club after one round of play.

The Aggie effort was led by the trio of seniors Chelsea Mocio, Natalie Reeves and Katerina Ruzickova, who finished at one-under to stand in a first-day tie for second.

“I am pleased with how we played today getting three under-par rounds from three seniors,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The freshman were solid despite a couple stumbles. I was very happy for Natalie performing so well from the second team, starting her in the ‘second’ group was tough but she responded very well today.”

The Texas A&M lineup that finished day one in first consisted of Mocio, Ruzickova, sophomore Alex Neal (+5, T35) and freshmen Thanya Pattamakijsakul (E, T7) and Bianca Fabrizio (+4, T29). As a team, the Aggies recorded 15 birdies, With Mocio leading the way carding five herself. Ruzickova tied for the tournament lead with 15 birdies through day one and Pattamakijsakul ended the round at one-under on par-4s, second best at the ‘Mo’.

Following the Aggies in the top-five were Kentucky (+6), UCF (+8), Virginia (+10) and East Carolina (+11). Rounding out the talented field are Rollins College (+14), Florida State (+16), UTSA (+16), Texas A&M ‘B’ (+18), Elon (+30), Redlands (+33) and UT-Pan Am (+46).

Texas A&M’s second grouping finished the first round at 18-over behind Reeves’ strong effort as the Euless native finished at one-under tied for second place. Freshman Andrea Jonama fared well in her first collegiate round at just two-over par, recording four birdies against six bogeys. Rounding out the second A&M outfit were senior Janell Lysack at seven-over, freshman Callie Scheffler at 10-over and junior Kirby Kramer at 13-over.

Freshman Emily Fuchs, playing as an individual, finished her first round as an Aggie at 15-over in a tie for 64th place.

The Aggies return to the links Tuesday morning, the first bunch of Aggies will tee off from hole 10 at 9:00 a.m. and the second group at 10:03 a.m. from hole 1. Fuchs will start at 9:45 a.m. from the first hole.
