HOUSTON– The college basketball madness of March will come early when Toyota Center plays host to the Lone Star Showcase this December. The premium doubleheader on Dec. 21, 2013 features Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma in a nationally televised Big 12-SEC Challenge game and Houston vs. Rice in a crosstown showdown.

The event is managed by bd Global, LLC, a Lexington, Ky.-based sports marketing firm that is also running college basketball events in Las Vegas, Dallas and Southwest Florida for the 2013-14 season.

“We are excited to return to the state of Texas and highlight three of the Lone Star State’s best programs as well as an outstanding Oklahoma squad,” said Brooks Downing, president of bd Global (www.bdglobalsports.com), the event promoter. “Having these four programs with such close proximity to each other and long histories in each rivalry, it will be an electric atmosphere on that Saturday at Toyota Center.”

The Texas A&M-Oklahoma game will be the concluding contest of the inaugural Big 12-SEC Challenge, a 10-game series put together by the two leagues and ESPN. The game will be televised nationally to 75 million homes at 6:00 p.m. CT on ESPNU. Houston-Rice will tip at 3:30 p.m. CT with television to be announced at a later date.

Toyota Center & Houston Rockets CEO Tad Brown:

“This is a very exciting day to have the coaches and schools here to announce a world-class basketball event at Toyota Center. We want the basketball fans here in Houston to see the great programs here in the area in action.”

Texas A&M head coach Billy Kennedy:

“I am excited to be playing in Houston at such a great venue with some old Southwest Conference foes. We want to continue to play Big 12 teams to keep our fan base and our students engaged in basketball in this part of the country.”

On playing Dec. 21st at Toyota Center:

“I would say December is a great time for an event like this. Football is winding down and it's a great time of the year to kick-off basketball before conference play. Basketball is happening and to have a ball bouncing in a great arena here, it lets fans know that basketball is going on.”

On playing in the state of Texas:

“We need to continue to play a lot of Texas schools. There are a couple of teams here in the state that we hope to play soon. It’s good for us and good for the fans to have us play in the state and it helps our team and program.”

On playing Texas or Baylor:

“I would love to play Texas or Baylor and have been told by our administration that we can play them at anytime. It would be great for our program.”
