The Texas A&M football team will start the 2013 season with its highest ranking since 1995 after being ranked No. 6 in the preseason edition of the USA Today coaches poll on Thursday.

The Aggies, who open against Rice on Aug. 31, were 11-2 last season and posted a 41-13 win over Big 12 Co-Champion Oklahoma in the 2013 AT&T Cotton Bowl. A&M finished No. 5 in both the coaches and media polls last year, which were the Aggies’ highest final rankings since 1956. The Aggies have been ranked in 10 consecutive editions of the coaches poll.

Texas A&M returns 11 starters from last year’s 11-win team, including a pair of first-team All-Americans in quarterback Johnny Manziel and offensive tackle Jake Matthews. The Aggies return six offensive starters and five starters on defense, as well as placekicker Taylor Bertolet.

The last time the Aggies were ranked higher in the preseason coaches poll was 1995, when then-head coach R.C. Slocum’s team was ranked No. 3 heading into the season-opener against LSU. The Aggies were coming off an undefeated 10-0-1 season in 1994.
