COLLEGE STATION – MSG Sports and the Dixon family announced today that Texas A&M and St. John’s will play in the annual Maggie Dixon Classic on Sunday, December 22 at Madison Square Garden.

The national matchup will mark the eighth anniversary of the Maggie Dixon Classic and the seventh consecutive season that The Garden will host the premier women's college basketball event.

“The quality of the teams that will be in New York adds so much prestige to this great event,” head coach Gary Blair said. “The four teams are all proven winners and playing this type of event will make us better and get us ready for conference play.”

The Red Storm takes on the 2013 SEC Champion Aggies to lead off the women's basketball doubleheader. This will mark Texas A&M's second appearance in the Maggie Dixon Classic (2010) and St. John's third consecutive appearance (2011, 2012).

The Aggies were led by Danielle Adams’ double-double, 24 points and 12 rebounds, along with Sydney Carter’s 18 points and Tyra White’s 17 points as they defeated Rutgers 79-50 on December 19, 2010. The Red Storm are seeking their first victory at the Maggie Dixon Classic after falling to Duke in 2011 and Baylor in 2012.

“Having played there three years ago helped our team grow and mature early in the season pushing us on to winning the national championship that season,” Blair added. “I am hoping to have a large group of Aggies join us on the trip to be able to experience New York around Christmas time to take in a Broadway show and watch two great basketball games.”

UConn, last year's NCAA Champion, will make their second appearance in the Maggie Dixon Classic to take on 2013 NCAA Tournament Final Four participant California in the second matchup.  This will be California's first appearance in the Maggie Dixon Classic.

Tickets for the Maggie Dixon Classic start at $20.00 and go on sale at a later date.  They will be available for purchase at the Madison Square Garden box office, all Ticketmaster locations and online at

About the Maggie Dixon Classic

The Maggie Dixon Classic is held annually in memory of the former Army Black Knights women's basketball coach.  On April 6, 2006, 29 year old Maggie Dixon, died from an undiagnosed heart condition.  Over the course of her six months as head coach at the United States Military Academy she led the program to unprecedented heights; the Black Knights played in their first Patriot League Championship and Dixon led her team to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Over 325,000 Americans die every year from sudden cardiac arrest and Madison Square Garden will again team with the Dixon family to host a Heart Health Fair during both games.
