COLLEGE STATION, Texas—The Texas A&M athletics program is currently in 11th place in the 2012-13 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final winter rankings. The 11th place finish in the final winter rankings marks an all-time high for Texas A&M. The previous best finish in the final winter standings was 12th last year.

The Aggies have finished in the final year-end Top 10 rankings the past three years (6th in 2009-10, 8th in 2010-11 and 9th in 2011-12).

The most recent rankings included points for men’s ice hockey, women’s bowling and men’s and women’s gymnastics.

The Aggie winter sports combined for a total of 324.50. Leading the way were fourth place finishes by the men’s indoor track and field squad and the women’s swimming and diving program. The women’s indoor track and field team posted a 12th place finish at the NCAA Championships while women’s basketball reached the second round of the NCAA Championships to garner a 17th place finish. Men’s swimming and diving rounded out the winter scoring with a 24th place finish in the NCAA Championships.

The Aggie spring sports are poised to make some noise with three programs ranked in the country’s Top 10 and seven ranked in the Top 25. The women’s outdoor track and field team is currently atop the national rankings with the men’s outdoor track and field squad ranked second. Women’s tennis is currently ranked fourth in the country.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup takes into consideration the top 10 female sports and the top 10 male sports at each institution. In Texas A&M’s case, the school sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, 11 female and nine male.
