COLLEGE STATION, Texas –The Texas A&M women’s basketball program announced Wednesday the signing of Achiri Ade, a 2013 NJCAA All-American, to an National Letter of Intent.

“Achiri is a high-energy player who comes from one of the best junior colleges in the country that regularly produces Division 1 players,” Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair said. “She is similar to players we have had here in the past like Patrice Reado, Adaora Elonu, Danielle Gant and Kristi Bellock. Achiri fits the mold of the athletic post that we love to run our offense through in a high-low game. She will complement the post players we have returning for next season, Rachel Mitchell and Karla Gilbert, along with our incoming freshman Jada Terry.”

Ade played the past two seasons at Midland College, located in Midland, Texas, where she helped lead the Lady Chaps (22-8) to a share of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference title, the NJCAA Regional V Championship and a trip to the NJCAA Sweet 16.

“Achiri is a very athletic and competitive player,” Midland head coach Ron Jones said. “She is probably the best rebounder I have had the chance to coach in my 21 years’ experience coaching junior college. I know she is very excited to be signing with A&M and is looking forward to competing in the SEC. She really enjoyed meeting the staff in College Station and got along with the players great.”

In addition to being named a NJCAA All-American, the 6-foot-1 forward claimed first-team All-Conference and All-Region honors while averaging 14.1 points and 12.5 rebounds per game last season. Ade ranked sixth in the nation in rebounding and recorded 22 double-doubles in just over 26 minutes per game.

The Baltimore native signed with James Madison out of high school and was rated a four-star prospect by espn.com as the No. 27 forward and No. 92 overall prospect in the 2011 class. Playing for the Seton Keough High School Gators Ade was a 2011 McDonald’s All-American nominee.

Previous junior college signees of Blair at Texas A&M have been drafted into the WNBA and contributed the Aggies post-season success.
