Texas A&M in 10th Place in Latest Division I Learfield Directors' Cup

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas A&M athletics program is currently in 10th place in the 2012-13 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup second winter rankings. The Aggies have finished in the Top 10 the past three years in the final year-end rankings. (6th in 2009-10, 8th in 2010-11 and 9th in 2011-12)

The second winter rankings included points for fencing, women’s ice hockey, men’s wrestling and men’s and women’s swimming and diving.

Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving program posted a school-record tying fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships and earned 80 points. The women’s head swimming coach is Steve Bultman and the diving head coach is Jay Lerew.

The men’s swimming and diving program posted a 24th place finish at the recent NCAA Championships to garner 50 points. It marked the 18th straight Top 25 finish for the men’s swimming and diving program. Jay Holmes is the men’s head swimming coach and Lerew heads up the men’s diving squad.

Texas A&M and head track and field coach Pat Henry posted a fourth place finish in the men’s indoor track and field championships to earn 80 points while the women’s indoor track and field program posted a 12th place and earned 64.5 points. This marked the sixth straight Top 10 finish for men’s indoor track and field under the direction of Henry.

The Aggie fall sports posted 247 points and added to the current winter total of 274.50 provides the total of 521.50 points in the standings.

The next winter rankings will be released on Thursday, Apr. 11 after the completion of the men’s and women’s basketball championships. The final winter rankings will be released on Apr. 25 as bowling, men’s ice hockey and men’s and women’s gymnastics conclude.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup takes into consideration the top 10 female sports and the top 10 male sports at each institution. In Texas A&M’s case, the school sponsors 20 intercollegiate sports, 11 female and nine male.
