RANCHO SANTA FE, California – The No. 22 Texas A&M Women’s Golf team finished the first day of the SDSU Farm Invitational in a tie for ninth in Rancho Santa Fe, California on Easter Sunday.

The Aggies finished first 18-holes at 23-over par in a tie with host San Diego State. No. 1 Southern California leads the Invitational at 10-over followed by UNLV (+14), Texas (+15), Pepperdine (+15) and Northwestern (+17) round out the top-five. Arizona sits in sixth at 18-over with California (+19), Miami (+21) sitting in seventh and eighth respectively. Following A&M and San Diego State at New Mexico (+29) and Long Beach State (+29) at a tie for 11th and then South Florida (+33), Michigan (+37) and Wyoming (+56) to round out the field.

“I was really proud of the way we played for 14 holes today,” Head Coach Trelle McCombs said after the round today. “We really played like a championship team. Then we fell victim to a tough 15th hole, which we did not play really smart. We know what we have to do from this point out and are committed to getting it done to finish strong over the next 18 holes.”

Individually the Aggies are led by Senior Sarah Beth Davis at just 2-over sitting in a tie for eighth place, just four strokes off the leader Hana Lee of Northwestern (-2). Junior Natalie Reeves sits at a tie for 35th place at six-over, Junior Chelsea Mocio follows closely behind at seven-over in a tie for 40th place. Junior Katerina Ruzickova (+8) and Senior Mary Michael Maggio (+9) round out the A&M contingent at tie for 46th and a tie for 53rd respectively.

“I am really proud of how Sarah played throughout the day,” McCombs added about Davis’ strong opening round. “Sarah was very patient and did not allow anything to affect her play over the entire 18-holes.”

The Aggies will return to the course 10:00 a.m. (CT) with the lead group, joined with Miami and California to kick off the second day of play. Live scoring of the event can be found at GolfStat.com.
