COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Former University of Texas pitcher Rachel Fox and Blinn transfer Kristen Davenport have both signed with the Texas A&M softball team, head coach Jo Evans announced today.

Davenport (Deer Park, Texas) is eligible to join the team immediately for the 2013 season, while Fox (Sugar Land, Texas) will practice with the team and begin competition in the fall.

"We are excited to welcome Rachel and Kristen to our program," Evans said. "Rachel has been successful at every level she has competed. She is a fierce competitor and has proven she can compete against the best teams in the country. Although she will not be eligible to compete in games with our team this spring, she will be on the field in practice and in the weight room, and will be able to challenge our hitters daily at practice. Rachel will be eligible in the fall of 2013 and will be a mainstay in our pitching rotation."

Fox spent two years in rotation with the Longhorns, where she ranked second among Big 12 pitchers with a 1.24 ERA as a freshman in 2011. As a sophomore, she recorded a 14-2 record and had 16 starts in 25 appearances while hurling eight complete games. The right-handed pitcher was 12-0 to start the 2012 season, not taking a loss until May 5. In high school Fox was a two-time Texas Gatorade Player of the Year (2009-10), a four-time TAPPS 4A All-State honoree and a four-time district MVP. She is the daughter of Rusty and Melessa Fox of Sugar Land, Texas, and attended high school at Fort Bend Baptist Academy.

"Kristen had a great season last year at Deer Park and pitched her team to the State Championship," Evans said. "She also did a nice job this fall for Blinn and her coaches speak highly of her competitiveness and work ethic. She is a finesse pitcher who does a great job changing speeds and is not afraid to challenge hitters. Kristen gives our pitching staff much needed depth and is eligible to compete this spring season."

Davenport spent the fall at Blinn College. At Deer Park High School, she led her team to a 5A state championship in 2012. Davenport is a three-time All-District selection (2010-12) and was named First-Team All-Greater Houston by the Houston Chronicle in her senior season. The right-handed pitcher's efforts in the circle didn't go unnoticed - she was chosen as the Player of the Game in both the state semifinal and state championship games and was named the State Tournament MVP. As a senior, Davenport took honors as the TSWA Class 5A Player of the Year and a TSWA Class 5A First-Team All-State Pitcher. She is the daughter of Thomas and Kelly Davenport of Deer Park, Texas.

Fox and Davenport will join the Aggies in practice this Monday, Jan. 14, as the team begins the hunt for a 12th-straight NCAA postseason appearance and an eighth NCAA Women's College World Series (WCWS) berth.
