BRYAN, Texas - The fourth-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team suffered an 11-8 loss to No. 1 South Carolina Friday in the Aggies' first-ever home Southeastern Conference (SEC) meet and the final show of the fall season at the Brazos Valley Expo Complex.

Trailing 3-7 after the first two events, the Aggies mounted a comeback to end the meet but it wasn't enough as the top-ranked Gamecocks remained undefeated with the win.

Equitation over fences and Horsemanship started the day off simultaneously, and South Carolina picked up wins in both events, edging the Aggies 3-2 in over fences and taking a 4-1 victory in horsemanship.

Marlena Parker, who had the highest score of the day in fences (85) was one of two Aggie victories in that event as Shelby Lawson also scored a point for A&M with an 84-81 win. Parker was the fences Most Outstanding Player (MOP).

In horsemanship, Molli Jacobs was the only A&M rider to defeat her opponent, earning a 77-76 victory in the second-to-last ride of the event. Jacobs' score was also a meet high in horsemanship and gave the sophomore MOP honors.

The Aggies rode to a draw in equitation on the flat on a pair of wins by Kelsi Shevlin and Paige Russell. A 3-2 A&M win in reining narrowed the scoring gap for the final 8-11 tally. Ashley Skold, Becca Murray and Lindsey Bernbaum each recorded victories for the Aggies in the final event.

The meet with South Carolina was the Aggies' final show of the fall season. The team will return to action at Oklahoma State on Feb. 2. To learn more about Texas A&M equestrian, log on to AggieAthletics.com and follow @AggieEquestrian on Twitter.
