TEXAS A&M WEEKLY

HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH BILLY KENNEDY
"It's a great time of year again. We're excited about playing and practicing again. We're excited about practicing to get ready for games again. We've got some new perimeter guys. We're just trying to get guys acclimated to how we want them to play. That's probably been one of the biggest challenges at this point. We're excited about Louisiana Tech coming in on Friday. That'll be a good test for us early."
On the exhibition game
"I really thought we gave up too many points. They played really up-tempo and fast. I think they attempted 33 three-pointers. To beat a team like that this early in the year you have to be really disciplined offensively and you have to be sure to get back on defense. I thought we struggled with that. They played four guards a lot when we tried to play our post guys. We learned something about our team and we're going to have to make adjustments in situations like that."
On how the team's defensive performance
"We've got to do a better job of containing the dribble penetration. They did a good job of penetrating and kicking it back out for a lot of threes, fortunately they didn't make that many. We just need to be more sound fundamentally. We have to protect the paint and not get so extended. Harris and Reese both did a nice job offensively."
On the new players transitioning
"The JUCO guys and the new guys [defense] is the biggest challenge. Defensively it's going to take us a while to get those guys adjusted to how good defensively they have to be at this level. Rotation and getting help on ball screens is what hurt us a lot the other day. We spend time on it, but we've got to be able to carry it over into our games."
On Louisiana Tech
"They play really fast. They shoot a lot of threes. We'll have to defend the three-point line. They play small. They're a lot like Incarnate Word, but their players are on another level. We'll have to be a lot more disciplined defensively and do a good job of containing them. They do a good job of pressing and changing defenses. It'll be a good challenge for us; a challenge you normally don't see this early."
