Jalen Jones joined the Texas A&M basketball program in January 2014.

Jones, a 6-foot-7 seven guard/forward, played two seasons at SMU before deciding to transfer. He will sit out the remainder of the 2013-14 campaign in anticipation of joining the Aggies on the court next season.

“We really like the maturity he’s going to bring to our team,” head coach Billy Kennedy said of Jones, “He’s had a lot of success at SMU as a perimeter forward and we really think his athleticism and toughness is going to help our team in the future.”

As a sophomore last season, the Dallas native and product of Kimball High School led the Mustangs in scoring by averaging 14.0 points per game while contributing 7.7 rebounds per contest. During the 2012-13 campaign he produced nine double-double and 10 games with at least 15 points and 7 boards.

Jones was selected Conference USA Player of the Week, C-USA POTW & National High-Major Player of the Week on Dec. 3 of last season after averaging 17 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, 1.5 assists and a steal in wins over Utah & Hofstra.

As a freshman at SMU in 2011-12, Jones played in 32 games and drew 18 starting assignments. He averaged 8.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per contest while compiling 22 steals, 19 assists and 12 blocks.
